Moments of Nostalgia: Before the Silence

May 1, 2025

Not all memories are meant to be remembered with clarity. Some are meant to be felt. This is a reflection in verse—for the moments that made me, and maybe made you too.

Sometimes,
all it takes is closing your eyes.

Closing your eyes...
and going back.

Back to that song,
to that scent,
to that warm breeze that drifts in uninvited
and lingers in your chest,
opening the door
without knocking.

Sillness

Samsung Galaxy S21 (6/27/2020)

A year had passed since I left my island. That morning, the sun rose in a way that felt like home — golden, still, and open. The light reminded me of everything I missed, everything that made me. And so I sat, breathed it in, and remembered.

And it's as I sit
that I feel...

I feel that when that music fills my chest,
I breathe.

I breathe in that nostalgia—
that nostalgia that takes me
to them.

I think of them.
Of those.
Of those moments...

Moments when
you feel an emptiness deep in your heart.
Moments when
your gut cries out for something familiar.

Moments when
you feel the embrace
of those no longer here.

Moments when
your heart fills with that energy
that’s always lived inside you.

That energy born in the days
that made you happy.
Moments you thought you’d never forget.
Moments so full of joy
they feel like they were just yesterday.

Those Moments

Unknown (3/28/2025)

The classical photo configuration — the ones we took at graduations, at birthdays, at family events, and during everyday moments.
That same pose, the one we each took without thinking.
The one that repeated itself through my past.
The one I didn’t give much importance to.
That’s the one I miss.
The one I would pay to have back.

Moments when
you had everyone,
and hadn’t lost a single soul.

Moments when
you were home.
When you were exactly
where you belonged.

Moments of peace,
of joy,
of long afternoons
that felt like they’d never end.

Moments when time didn’t matter.
When you were fully there,
and nothing pulled you away.

Moments when
you sat on your board at the beach,
watching the sunrise—
golden sky above,
crystal waves dancing in front of you.

Moments when
the ocean spoke to you in whispers.
When you were free.
When the sea
and you
were one.

Steps that Follow

Galaxy Note 7 (11/28/2017)

Sometimes, when you look back at the steps you walked —
at the sorrows you carried,
at the days your soul disappeared
into the endless darkness of sorrow, despair, and loss…

In the moments where you cried for hours,
cried after a year had passed,
cried when your emotions finally caught up with you—
those moments when the sorrow consumed your soul
with an emptiness no one in this world could fill.
No one in the universe.
No one...

That sadness made you remember.
Remember those days.
Those laughs—
when she was there with you.

The one who made you laugh that laugh.
That laugh only she could bring.
A laugh now buried,
buried in a place I don’t know—
because I wasn’t there.
I wasn’t feeling.
I just moved...

Dead inside.
Empty.
In shock.

Moments when
you woke up out in the countryside,
in that nest of silence and privacy.

When the land called your name.
When the birds sang your song.
When the flowers gave off their scent
without shame.

And your family
filled the air with light.

Moments when
you went wherever you wanted,
ate whatever you saw,
and felt more than you could explain.

Moments when
laughter slipped out
without asking.

When someone said your name
with tenderness.
When you were simply you—
effortless,
unafraid.

The Light

Galaxy S21 (6/27/2020)

And I head out, inspired by the new-found light.
The sun shining through the window,
coming through the fence,
creating these marvelous worlds—
worlds filled with imagination,
possibility,
and dreams.

Worlds born from the deepest light that is in you.
That is you.
That is there
for you.

That light that illuminates
when the darkness is understood.

Moments of joy—
the kind of joy that rises
from melancholy,
from loss,
from birth.

(7/16/2025)

And now,
when everything moves so fast,
you close your eyes
to find them.

Not to go back...
but to remember
who you are.

Because in those memories,
you still breathe,
you still dream,
you still feel.

Moments of clarity.
Of joy.
Of unity.
Moments.
